The National Kitchen and Bath Association Ottawa Chapter held the coveted 2024 Design Excellence Awards this month, and Laurysen designers were once again big winners!
The event, held on May 4 at the stunning National Arts Centre, celebrated excellence in kitchen and bath design, honouring the industry’s most innovative visionaries for their work.
This year, five Laurysen designers were called six times (one twice!) to accept awards for their incredible designs.
“Attending the NKBA Design Excellence Awards was an absolute delight,” said Caroline Castrucci, CEO of Laurysen Kitchens. “I’m incredibly proud of our talented designers who won six awards—it’s a testament to the dedication and skill of the entire Laurysen family.”
In addition to attending the event, Caroline was honoured to present the Doris Lacroix trophy to Mark Smith, Senior Account Manager at Berenson. This lifetime achievement award, which Laurysen won last year, recognizes outstanding contributions to the industry. Caroline also proudly announced Laurysen’s generous donation to the Chrysalis House women’s shelter, “We are thrilled to contribute cabinetry to help create a welcoming and functional kitchen for those in need.”
1st Place, Bathroom – Classic/Traditional – Group 1
Victoria designed a warm, woodsy, elegant powder room with a large sliding door and sleek black marble countertops accented with polished chrome lights and fixtures. Soft, creamy walls create a sense of warmth and serenity, and a spacious shower exudes luxury with large mosaic tiles that match the tile floor throughout.
2nd Place, Best Transformation (Before & After) – Kitchen
Shan combined muted black with greystone to create a modern, minimalist kitchen you’ll never want to leave. A large central island stands at the centre, gleaming from the pendant lights hanging delicately above, while pastel hardwood floors are bathed in natural light.
2nd Place, Kitchen – Contemporary/Modern – Price Group 3
Zeina’s beautiful kitchen mixes deep walnut and luxurious grey marble countertops with matte black wrought iron stools and hardware. The rich, earthy tones of the hardwood flooring ground the space, while oversized pendant lights hang above, illuminating it with a subtle ambiance. A kitchen alcove with a built-in wine cabinet and additional storage completes the scene.
2nd Place, Kitchen – Classic/Traditional – Price Group 4
Our Design Supervisor, Wael, dreamed up a contemporary kitchen with a rustic yet modern charm. He used barrel oak and matte black cabinets, creamy-gold marble countertops, and light hardwood floors to bring his design to life. A black and gold range hood draws the eye and is accented by gold hanging lights and cabinet handles. A large island featuring matching marble countertops anchors the center of the space, offering ample seating and abundant storage.
2nd Place, Kitchen – Classic/Traditional – Price Group 2
A second award for Victoria! White cloud walls, quartz countertops, a muted green island, and matching cabinetry, along with gorgeous hardwood floors and a high, slanted ceiling, give this kitchen a mountain ranch feel. This space is perfect for entertaining; it features a spacious counter with seating and ample room for a beautiful wood dining table.
2nd Place, Kitchen – All Styles/Contemporary – Price Group 1
Cabinetry in walnut and captivating teal green, mixed with polished white countertops, gives this midcentury modern kitchen a nostalgic feeling with contemporary updates. Walnut chairs and lighter green wall tiles serve as ideal accents, seamlessly complementing the space. Long overhead 50s-style pendant lights and wingback accent chairs add to the midcentury vibe in this timeless space.
