On October 15th, 2022, close to 700 people gathered at Ottawa’s Shaw Centre to celebrate excellence in housing design and recognize the best of the best. By night’s end, Laurysen Kitchens had won two of the prestigious awards.

The 39th Annual Housing Design Awards Gala was organized by the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA). Almost 300 entries were received, each design vying for the top award in categories such as kitchen and bathroom, production and custom homes, and renovations.

“What an absolutely incredible night for our industry,” remarks Corey Laurysen, Vice President of Sales and Service at Laurysen. “We saw some amazing designs from local designers, builders and everything in between. Ottawa should be very proud of the talent in our beautiful city; it’s incredible.”

First prize: Production Home, Single Detached ($750,001 – $1,000,000)

Laurysen’s gifted designer Kim Silcox was thrilled to share the stage with the Mackie Homes team at the gala. Together, they accepted the prize for ‘Production Home, Single Detached’ in the $750,000-$1,000,000 price range. Kim created a beautiful, warm and functional kitchen and bath for the gorgeous Westwind Model entry that perfectly complemented the creative vision for the home.

First Place: Production Bathroom

Accomplished Laurysen designer Wael Bakr took home the ‘Best Production Bathroom’ award in partnership with Minto Homes and Tanya Collins Design. His visually stunning yet highly functional bathroom was featured in “The Caraway” 2021 Minto Dream Home. With walls of grainy earth-toned quartz, Wael’s design is both bold and luxurious.

(And we extend special congratulations to our longtime partner, Minto Communities, for winning multiple awards and being named Production Builder of the Year!)

Ottawa’s Supportive Housing Design Community

All night long, the crowd enthusiastically supported one another; huge rounds of applause erupted as each finalist’s submission was displayed. It was clear that everyone was extremely happy to be together again after two years without an in-person event.

The team at Laurysen is proud to be part of such an amazingly talented community and is already looking forward to next year’s show!
