Laurysen Kitchens is extremely proud to announce that Wael Bakr, our Sales & Design Department Manager, has achieved the Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer (CMKBD) certification. Wael is one of a select few designers in Ottawa with this honour, alongside his longtime Laurysen colleague and CMKBD-certified designer, Aviva Ben-Choreen.
CMKBD: Certified Master Kitchen and Bath Designer
The National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) awards CMKBD certification to kitchen and bath professionals who have undergone extensive training, accumulated many years of practical experience, passed a rigorous portfolio review, and positively influenced the community.
Certification Process and Portfolio Review
The road to achieving this status is impressive. Candidates must have maintained their Certified Kitchen & Bath Designer (CKBD) certification for at least six consecutive years and completed 100+ hours of NKBA education or approved college coursework. Additionally, they must have a minimum of five years (8,800 hours) of full-time professional kitchen and bath design work experience beyond their CKBD requirements. The NKBA seeks experience in four key areas: Association Activities, Volunteerism Activities, Sponsorship Activities, and Professionalism Activities.
Candidates also take part in a Master Portfolio Review, which involves submitting six projects that showcase a blend of kitchens and baths or other approved projects. As part of the process, they must also have placed in an NKBA design contest at either the National or Chapter level (of which Wael has won many!) or complete a video describing their professional accomplishments.
